Truth be told it's his personality more than anything, not so much being a diva as you put it but someone who might not be able to work with others (esp in front of a camera, not everyone is like Linus who can deal with cameras 24/7), follow instructions perfectly (aka reading lines) or various other reasons that shouldn't make him be called a diva.
A diva wouldn't blame themselves for the failure, they would have blamed the equipment, reality tho the equipment did cause him to fail in the time aspect of things and those extra minutes could have meant he would have won.
